I had a really funny exchange with some longtime former Microsoft executives. They were talking about another former colleague still at Microsoft, who was not known for being that smart or talented.

“How did he last so long?” “Oh, he never became a manager.”

It made me realize how lethal management is as an occupation. Enemies above, below and on all sides, who would want to sign up for that?
