Same thing happened to me in my first job. Turned out the old guys turned down the position and I was the only one dumb enough to do it! :)

Was at one place. We went through 7 engineering directors.

Finally out of desperation I took the position. Although I made it clear I didn’t want it.

Yea. Left after six months in that role.
