Build a Linux Distro for Startups
2 points by rajeshgangam 2005 days ago
I am making a new Linux distro to support new, small and medium sized startups. As a startup member or owner - Would you be interested in a single distro with off-the-shelf pre-installed and pre-configured(template driven) mailserver, webserver, chat, video conference, file sharing. I would also add redundancy and replication support for each.

See Calculate Linux. Team who created Calculate did it for them own startup which is not related to IT. They just had some Gentoo experience and didn't want to pay Microsoft.

Thank you. The idea is perfect looks like the development didn't catch up to the latest development practices. I will contact them to see if I can add features like conference server. May be I can add features like firewall, VPN, confluence, spam detector.
What advantages do you plan over Ubuntu?
Scale and redundancy.

let's say if webserver crashes, or the jitsi conference server needs to scale - it needs to have fine tuned configuration. Not many people are willing to spend time on it.

Ubuntu as a standalone operating system is application friendly but not it-admin friendly. My idea is to create free alternates to the Gmail, zoom infra that a startup can create on their own without a it-admin.
