I can never bring myself to throwing away food where the labor of other people has been involved
(cooking or growing) . I can justify myself by various consequentialist arguments, but deep down I know that I have a moral duty to eat it. I am morally bound to not throw it into the trash, regardless of whether there are any staring children in the world that can be helped by my action. Many people in the West find this frame of mind totally alien. Most people in the east immediately understand it, as did I think most Westerners (at least) before the 20th century. https://books.google.com/books?id=oJFBAAAAYAAJ&pg=PA32&dq=ru... |
