Sorry. I meant high resolution screens. There were hardly any “retina” laptops (and no desktop screens) when apple started introducing theirs in 2012.

Dell and Sony also had laptops going as high as 4K in 13" form factors around the same time. Yes they were high end. So too was the MBP.

That's correct but Apple shows that software support for HiDPI is also important, compared to Windows/Linux.
