In my experience, one of the biggest things that people can do to become more "charming" (though they shouldn't be doing so strictly for that reason), is to develop more genuine empathy for others. That and listening skills. Many people say they are good listeners, but in reality most people are simply waiting for the next turn to talk. It takes practice and empathy to be a good listener.
