For E4, there are two paths: Corporal (Non-commissioned officer, a leadership role) or Specialist (non-leadership, but a more specialized set of skills). More importantly: these promotion requirements are well regulated, checked-and-double-checked for consistency. Everyone in the ranks knows what to expect. Leadership knows when to promote. A sense of fairness exists, etc. etc. |
