I'm using GAE (for a blog and a wiki with basic functionalities) and was surprised to like to play with the BigTables.

I don't think you should care for a startup. The only thing I'm missing is the use of external apps like LaTeX to build png images from math formulas.

You can use Javascript to convert LaTeX style notation into MathML: http://www1.chapman.edu/~jipsen/mathml/asciimath.html
