Sounds very depressing. Even though we still have growing worldwide rates of CO2 emissions which would bring us to the dead end.

It is depressing. But as in Asimov's 'Foundation' novels, even though we cannot stop the dark times, we can ameliorate them. This will require a multi-pronged approach: individuals consuming less, greener approaches to farming that don't involve stripping soil and relying on copious amounts of fertilizer, reducing emissions, setting aside green space ecopreserves, etc.

By working hard towards these goals, we can certainly make life much better for us and our nonhuman companions on this planet and minimize the effects of our growth.
