Have you tried OCaml? F# is a derivative of OCaml, and of course the OCaml ecosystem is non-.NET.

OCaml is a nice language but lack of libraries and multiple competing standard libraries has caused many teams to abandon it and switch to F#. In fact there have been some articles posted right here to HN in the last week or so all about this.
