Since the first two countries listed have many Malay/Indonesian speakers, another association for "tok" might be as a short term for an old person http://prpm.dbp.gov.my/Cari1?keyword=tok&d=139128&#LIHATSINI e.g. "tok guru" for an old (and wise?) religious leader. Though I barely know enough Malay to order some nasi lemak, so I can't say how likely that is to be an intended connection. |
