I think this assumes a correlation between high IQ and fringe personality, which is a bit of a hollywood myth. I remember reading in "Understanding Psychology as a Science: An Introduction to Scientific and Statistical Inference" by Zoltan Dienes that there is little correlation between IQ and mental illness.
