I feel like I'm going insane. On every single model revealed today, there is a differently-colored patch on the right side of the phone, below the power button. What is it?

It's not the SIM card slot - that's on the left side. It's not a new TouchID sensor - the website doesn't even mention it at all. And yet it exists in every single render.

It's not present on the renders on the Apple AU site so that would confirm it's related to mmWave which is not available outside US.

I think that's part of their antenna?
This seems like the most likely answer. Disappointing how different the color is if that is the case.
I kept thinking it was the SIM card slot earlier in the presentation, but from what I've read on Reddit it sounds like it's part of the 5G antennae array.
It seems to be part of the mmwave antenna. I do wish it was a touch ID sensor. https://www.theverge.com/circuitbreaker/2020/10/13/21515128/...
It’s on my iPad as well. Model A2228. On the same side as the volume buttons.

It looks a lot like the magnetic charger for the Apple pencil in the iPad Pro and new Air, so it’s possible it could be a future addition.
No, the SIM card slot is on the right hand side.
Check the renders. The sim slot is on the left side.
You’re totally right. I just assumed it was SIM because that’s where it is today! I wonder what it is now
