If you have saved your address home is always the first option, no need to type anything

If you disable the option allowing Google to track and collect your location data everywhere and everytime, you cannot use this option.

My workaround for this was to create a shortcut to directions to home:

In Google Maps on Android:

1. Search for your home address and click "Directions"

2. Click on 3-dot menu (hamburger button?) next to origin and destination

3. Select "Add route to Home screen" to create shortcut

It also disables the ability to view weather on my phone at a glance or button press. I have to Google "city name weather"
