Start simple. Find a project on YouTube that looks interesting and go for it. For the tools yeah they can be expensive. For me I buy v1 at Harbor Freight for cheap. If I use it enough to break it time for v2 from Snap-On, Dewalt, Milwaukee. First project I ever did was a workbench. It's a great first project as you can use it for all of your future projects.
