Looks good. Tried to signup for "the trial", but after verifying my address and logging in. It seems I HAVE to subscribe to "trial" it ?

Is this correct ?

I also went to sign-up, but balked when I couldn't use social sign in (I don't like having to make more account with passwords)

Correct. Subscription comes with 7-day trial.

I think you are loosing a lot of potential customers by forcing everyone to commit up front.
