Being a nerd and understanding thus stuff I would likely never buy a network connected appliance. But how the hell to explain that to friends and family without sounding like a nut job conapiricy theory chaser

When my family started calling me paranoid, I started telling them to stop asking about such things if they didn't want to hear my opinion. It's simple - they either trust your opinion when they need assistance, or they shouldn't ask for input.

It's rather close to blackmail, but refusing to set up that insecure IP camera for someone and explaining that their "brand-new" camera has vulnerabilities that have been known, but remained unpatched for years, is somewhay effective. It's also kinda amusing to help them return such crap to the store because it was sold with defects that are known by the manufacturer.

I'm dreading when you won't be able to buy non-networked appliances.

It'll be like removable batteries and headphone sockets on phones.
