I speak as someone who's worked for 30+ years on data modelling. Every time I encounter some mongo or other non-relational DB where the company jewels (the data) are stored with no documentation, no data model etc and stuff is just shoved into these stores willy nilly it makes me weep. Start off with relational, if perf is a problem then look at denormalising, after that then consider other alternatives for special cases. But to see run-of-the-mill apps with no near future scalability issues jumping right into mongo et al from day one makes me want to run away. |
