uTorrent 2.2.1, which unfortunately seems like it won’t be viable going forward if v2 adoption picks up.

Was using that for a very long time as it's the last version without ads. Unfortunately there were multiple vulnerabilities disclosed in 2018 and some private trackers started blacklisting it (workarounds for the vulns were discussed but not sure if any are confirmed as working).

This is news to me, thanks for pointing that out. (Not sure why I find it surprising, it’s a very old piece of software now.)
I'm still using uTorrent 1.8.4 inside WinXP VM. It's what I use for past 10 or so years because it works and still works.
Why not 3.x?
It's basically malware.
You can disable every single ad/feature, then it's really good.
