My go-to has been Color Brewer:
https://colorbrewer2.org But this article will help me make my own palettes for specific goals. A lot of categories have "common sense" colors (e.g., blues for male, pinks for female). Using those makes it easier for people to read charts without repeatedly looking at a legend or annotation. But I'd like to have the colors show multiple categorical variables. It should be just as easy to identify and compare white men versus white woman as it is to compare white men versus black men. |
