Not to sound conspiratorial, but the politicians that put these mechanisms in place know exactly what they're doing and this is a tool to keep the masses compliant and afraid of taking collective action against the overlord ruling class. Decoupling healthcare from employers, and making health care affordable are a direct threat to the entrenched status quo.
