Howdy neighbor! Here in Denmark, at the turn of the century, I took a 'classics' class in our equivalent to high school. A bit of Plato and Socrates, a bit of ancient Greek / Roman architecture (different types of columns?), a smidgen of archeology review. I imagine it was some kind of condensed and simplified remnant of the broad set of classics courses that would have been compulsory in 'high school' before the democratization of secondary education here (i.e. ~50 years ago our 'high school' was mostly populated by future academics and the children of the upper-middle classes). |
