Arguably the biggest difference that I notice when using linux as a desktop environment as an end-user is that it trusts "you", the [sometimes root] user, to a far greater extent than other operating systems. It is for this reason that I enjoy it. It also means that if you want to do something highly annoying and unusual, you can – and arguably case-insensitive filesystems are a subset of that. |
