All of them have one thing in common: they want to be seen as "new tech" companies, not dying older companies. Microsoft wants to be seen up against apple, google
Oracle wants to be seen up against AWS
Walmart wants to be seen up against amazon e-commerce From a shareholder management of company funds perspective, I think it's a stupid decision, but as executives within these companies looking to make a name for themselves, people advocate for stupid flashy acquisitions and imagine seamless synergies with ecommerce and advertising existing product lines. In most cases, according to studies, large acquisitions seem to harm the company long-term. |
