Probably because you have to be somewhat familiar with git to be able to upload stuff to it, there is a barrier of entry.

Not really. Click on Add File -> Upload files on top of the repository view then "drag files [there] to add them to your repository".
"Your repository" being the problem. It's not anonymous, and you don't necessarily want coworkers + world to know about your personal interpretation of Rule 34.
It's just linked to an email. If it's anonymous enough for forum users, it's anonymous enough for people to use it.
