Why are you so certain? It seems that even a decade ago C# performance wasn't far off from C++, if not slightly faster[0].

Building contrived tests which "prove" the performance of C# in the face of mountains of evidence to the contrary is on a much different scale from emulating an entire complicated hardware system.
