I was naive (or inexperienced) enough to take the word of my boss when he said that the firm will match an offer I had with another firm. One year later, I am working with the same firm for 80% less than what I could have been earning.

I was given all sorts of reasons under the sun for not increasing my pay. Looking back, I should have got it in writing.
