Well, given that it was published in the New Yorker 3 years ago, it clearly wasn't written primarily for us.

Given that it is discussing the results of actual psychological studies (that I have seen talked about in a number of other places), it is vanishingly unlikely that it is in some way intended to study anyone's gullibility.
