I'm also an expat here and I can second this. Trust in the government is at an all time high. Domestic travel is up 25% over last year. While many retail businesses suffered during the lockdown, life has mostly returned to normal. Albeit, with closed borders.

If its any consolation closed borders doesn't bother them as much as the thais who are far more dependent on tourism. Or the singaporeans , who do far more travelling..
