This is an area I know enough to be dangerous in, so would love to learn more if anyone has resources. From my understanding a 501(c)(4) is a social welfare organization that can engage in political activity as long as it isn't its primary purpose. I didn't want to risk us breaking that restriction. The IRS pages, FEC pages, and wikipedia is where I spent most of my time studying these orgs:
