How about Canada funding Geoffrey Hinton's research in machine learning. https://www.thestar.com/news/world/2015/04/17/how-a-toronto-... Arguably, one of the most improtant breakthroughs of recent history, funded by Canadian citizens/taxes. This has much bigger social/economic impact, especially since we can outsource the job of overspending on military to our neighbours, and attempt to build a more socially just society on money saved. |
