It seems pretty clear that while the AutoPilot technology may be cool or fun, it is nowhere near ready for full-self driving as Tesla has marketed it as. Using cameras + radar + neural networks may not be enough - no matter how cool the underlying software stack is. Similarly, I also question other self-driving car manufacturers (Waymo, Cruise, Uber) approaches using a Lidar/Radar/Camera suite. The long tail of the problem is immense and going to take years to solve with the current technology. To me it's clear that a new set of technologies that are more dynamic and responsive going into unknown situations is going to be needed to make it "foolproof" (if that is even possible at all).
