Apples and oranges - Xcode is 8.3 GB, Android Studio is 0.8.

In fairness here you probably need to add the Android SDK, NDK, and an emulator image or two, to match what iOS is giving in xcode. That isn't going to make the difference up, but from memory the NDK is around a 1.1 GB compressed download or so (if you need it), and you'll probably need at least one or two SDK versions for the releases you target.
And both together could fit on a hard disk you could buy 23 years ago.
And there's this other guy complaining it feels slow running on his core 2 duo laptop with 4gb ram
I'd be worried running Mac/ Windows on that thing, meanwhile he's unhappy with running an OS and an emulated OS, both targeting systems with more power than that...
