Except that ML and AI aren't new fields at all - they are over 60 years old and predate CS education by decades.

CNN, LSTM, and RNN are just special techniques in a much broader field that has been around for a long time.

Thinking ML/AI is new is exactly equivalent to thinking that electric cars are new...

Linear regression, correlation and general statistical minimisation approaches are almost a century old.

The only real difference is that computer scientists are cool and have hip new terms (and money), while statisticians are boring and uncool.

CS was around many years before becoming a major.
