The Opensmalltalk-vm is currently sitting on a known optimization (speculative inlining) that has the potential to improve performance 2-3x. But those guys don't have the funding to implement it. Things like JIT/VM work are specialized and complex, and small free-time contributions from people FOSS style won't cut it. |
