Hi hackers, first post ever here. After social distancing went in effect in The Netherlands, I stayed at home. Only went out for grocery shopping, and that's where you see how hard it is to keep your distance. I thought to myself: there should be an app for that. I looked for existing apps, but there weren't any. So I signed up with a team for the Dutch Hacking Health virtual hackathon where we built a demo of an app that did just that. We won and decided to keep working on it based on all the responses. Yesterday we launched our beta for Android. It uses sound waves to determine the distance between devices. Currently it supports device pairs, so if you have 2 phones, you can install it on both and try it out. If the devices are closer that 1.5 meters they will play an alarm sound (the Dutch COVID-19 distance guideline, which is just under 5ft) .
Do check it out and let me know what you think. The biggest benefit over using bluetooth is the accuracy at close range (where it matters).
Do let me know if you have any questions! |
