Yes, because Nvidia drivers are not part of the kernel they need to be updated manually and Nvidia does not distribute the source code, so you need to wait on Nvidia. Nvidia also doesn't support some of the APIs that AMD and Intel do, which causes fragmentation in Linux desktop environments. |
