The portability of being able to lift a VM off the hardware and onto another piece of hardware is a nice feature when you are using bargain consumer hardware for your "servers". The overhead is pretty minimal. I'm not currently doing it with my NUC servers, but it's a pretty good choice to do so, and ESXi is free if you don't need to, you know, manage it in any competent way. |
