It's an evolution of the same language: K3 = K (Kx) / Kona (Kevin Lawler open source), K4 = Q (in the current Kx KDB), K7 = Shakti (Arthur Whitney's most recent project),

Actually, shakti is now k9 (it was originally k7 but k7 is now abandoned)
