I agree but would qualify it. There is a clear benefit to JS based web applications. However, there was not a need to insert JS into every web site. With JS used sparingly in trusted web applications we could whitelist them and block JS everywhere else. But since JS is now ubiquitous, blocking it is tedious to impossible.
