In addition to being faster CPUs, these have much faster I/O buses. The RPi 3 could only talk to its 1GBit card at ~300MBit. The 4 can max out 1GBit. These have 2x10GBit in the CPU package. Put another way, these can be a high performance NAS/router, and simultaneously run the equivalent of a few RPis in VMs. Previously, AMD built an APU without embedded video. Hopefully they will continue to do so, and those will sell well into the embedded/appliance space. |
