As a matter of interest, have you tried WSL? It's a much more integrated experience than the isolated VM approach.

WSL 1 and Expo don’t play nice with each other; Expo was causing ephemeral port exhaustion and making both Windows and Linux unusable. WSL 2 should fix, but I don’t want to jump to an insider build quite yet.
