While I agree with your general point, the business world typically doesn't have much use for solo 'toy problems' and cares more about working in large teams and all that it entails. I got into programming because I love the toy problems, but it means that once I have something 90% solved in my head it becomes a huge struggle to continue. Sometimes in my working life I'd have to whip something up to fix an issue or provide a POC which gets thrown away or given to a team (I don't care either way) and those were the best projects. |
