Ask HN: What are good resources on writing a descriptive blog post?

I am going to be documenting a couple projects in the form of blog posts or online writeup. I'm doing this to practice writing and boost my resume/portfolio a bit.

Are there any resources that describe what makes a good technical writeup? Im looking to target the text to a lay person or technologist and don't want it to sound academic.
