It's interesting isn't it, for me I've only had one problem with Catalina (not logging into iCloud) and that was resolved easily. Time Machine works, Disk Utility has been fine, running a display over thunderbolt is fine. I run Windows on the same hardware and have far more problems with that.

Some people clearly are having problems however it's hard to get a handle on how widespread this really is.
