What made you go to grad school and why X concentration?

and what compelled you to choose the concentration you're in?

I'm thinking about going to grad school, my company doesn't offer higher education benefits so I may need to jump ship at some point but I'm still figuring things out.

I can see myself teaching but I've only been in industry for ~2 years so I'm not 100% sure.

I'm not super excited about the prospects of research papers either, during school I did research with professors, and while it was fun the most tedious part was writing the papers and articulating my thoughts and ideas.

would grad school be the right path for me? I'm interested in a variety of disciplines, during hackathons I did some ML, CV and NLP stuff. And while those probably compare nowhere to the rigor of higher education I did enjoy learning those concepts. I don't suppose there's a general PHD in CS? My professor told me to choose grad schools based on the professor as opposed to the pedigree of a school. If you want to become an expert on X study with the foremost expert on X.
