Fully remote isn't the future of work

The current craze around remote reminds me of the time when everyone thought that brick & mortar retail would be completely eaten up by e-commerce.

While Amazon is slowly eating the world, and online-only brands have been finding significant success, most pre-existing companies have moved towards an omni-channel approach rather than completely forgoing their physical footprint.

To this end, will the future of work follow the same path, resulting in most employers offering remote as the default, with purpose-built offices for specific activities that require physical presence? Will companies move from having one large office, to a network of smaller offices?
