The Fastmail devs have been working on getting JMAP for calendars standardised through the IETF. It’s intended as a mature, modern replacement for all the iCal / CalDAV junk. The biggest bottleneck at the moment is getting past the chicken and egg problem - we really need Apple and Google and others to adopt the new protocols for them to start to be useful.
