Neither do I think it is irresponsible to suggest that yoga, meditation, exercise and diet change can substitute for "serious" mental health treatment -- Anyone who can maintain wellness activities (exercise, sleep, diet) is in a much better state of wellness than a person who is seeing a psychiatrist -- by definition. While it may be that psychiatry could help patients exercise, I have not seen any studies on the efficacy of psychiatrists in motivating patients to maintain a regular exercise routine. I'd imagine your average yoga instructor would do better. |
