Well... yes and no. It is confusing, no doubt about it, but in an 'eternal inflation' picture it's practical to start the big bang at the false vacuum collapse. Not precisely correct, no; there certainly was time before inflation ended, and there may even have been something equivalent to a traditional big bang, but our bubble universe started right then. |
